More than 100.000 people visited our museums and took part in activities in 2015
Visits to museums of Sitges and people participating in activities convened during 2015 amounted to 106,392, according to Sitges Heritage Consortium's Report, presented today at the Executive Board meeting. The session was held in the Gothic Room of Maricel Museum and was chaired by the Mayor of Sitges, Miquel Forns; President of the Provincial Government of Barcelona, Mercè Conesa and Managing Director of the Consortium, Vinyet Panyella.
The report presented at the meeting details visits, activities, acquisitions, restorations, assignments, projects and dissemination policies of the Museums of Sitges. This is the first report after the reopening of the Cau Ferrat and Maricel Museums and highlights the high volume of visitors received by the two museums (single access and shared) last year. In total, 70,036 people visited Maricel and Cau or participated in activities held inside. Other visitors correspond to Maricel Palace (23,012 people), individual visits to Cau Ferrat (3514), Maricel Museum with the same system (3240), Stämpfli Foundation (1847) or guided tours around the Parish of Sant Bartomeu and Santa Tecla (147). The 4,596 correspond to activities outside those centers.
Last year’s visits include 5493 students from 204 schools located around the country, especially from the Penedès county. The information collected also reflects that during the entire year, 111 activities were organized, including six exhibitions produced individually or together with other centers: Patrimoni actiu (Active heritage) (Can Rocamora), Catifes de ciment (Ciment carpets). L'art de la rajola hidràulica (The art of hidraulic tiles) (with the assistance of Department of Culture of Sitges), Enric Morera i el seu món (Enric Morera and his world) (with the support of Biblioteca de Catalunya (National Library of Catalonia), Dossier Sinclair. L'art de Vicent Ballestar (The art of Vicent Ballestar) (with the Sitges - International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia), El Greco. La mirada de Rusiñol (The look of Rusiñol)(with the support of The Godia Foundation) and Peter Knapp. L'homme est partout (Stämpfli Foundation).
During 2015, as recorded in the Sitges Heritage Consortium's Annual Report, 55 works from own collections were restored, 41 were restored at their workshops. The loan policy allowed to receive160 works from other museums and art collections, while borrowing 96 for temporary exhibitions both in Sitges as in Barcelona, Malaga or the Italian city of Ferrara, in addition to itinerant exhibitions. The work that traveled the most last year was La morfinòmana, authored by Santiago Rusiñol and that was present in four exhibitions, of which the three were El Greco’s Itinerant Exhibition. La mirada de Rusiñol (The look of Rusiñol) was present in Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and Zaragoza. Throughout 2015, collections managed by Sitges Heritage Consortium increased by twelve works, eleven of which were donated and acquired: The sculpure La veremadora by Lola Anglada (1924) was the last Work of the Month.
Last year’s report also shows that the new museum shop in Can Rocamora sold 10,530 items among the 140 models on display, ranging from bookmarks and postcard fans, cases, notebooks, pens or fans.
