The opera in pocket format of the Sitgestiu Cultural adds a new representation this year: the celebrated Madam Butterfly, by Giaccomo Puccini, which will be staged in four sessions at the Golden Hall of Maricel Palace.
Madame Butterfly expands the catalog of pocket operas, which for five years has programmed Sitgestiu, the cultural proposal of Sitges Museums and the Department of Culture for the months of July, August and September. The four sessions of Madame Butterfly will be on July 15 and 22 and August 12 and 19, in all cases, at 8 pm. The performance will be performed by the Operaílica group, which has already performed other operas in the Palau, such as La Traviata, La Bohème, Carmen or Elisir d’amore.
Pocket operas are one of Sitges' attractions in museums. In an emblematic setting such as the Golden Hall, the performances seeks the proximity of the public with the artists and the warmth of a sober spectacle, but duly set for the occasion and with a recognized lyrical quality.
Set in Nagasaki, Madama Butterfly explains the tragic story of geisha Cio-Cio San, better known as Madame Butterfly. Seduced by Pinkerton, an officer of the US Navy, marries him, hoping that his marriage will be forever. But for Pinkerton it's just an adventure flirt outside of his country, and he soon abandoned her to marry an American woman. As a result of this clash of cultures, Cio-Cio San only has the option to commit suicide to save honor.
The tickets of Sitgestiu, which will present their complete program on the 27th of this month, will be released in the coming weeks and can be purchased through the web www.museusdesitges.cat and at the museum lockers. The price for Madame Butterfly is 20 euros.
