The legacy of Vallmitjana sculptors inspires new cultural activities
The Museums of Sitges add to the celebration of the Vallmitjana Year -dedicated to the three Barcelona sculptors of the turn of the century- new activities, which complement the exhibition installed in the exhibition hall of Can Rocamora. It is a workshop to learn how to make mud figures and a cultural outing in Barcelona following their work in public spaces.
The sculpture workshop will be held tomorrow Saturday, at 4:30 p.m. at the Blue Hall of the Palau de Maricel. Unlike the majority of workshops invoked by Sitges Museums, which are aimed at children, this is for adults and will explain the processes and practice to create and model sculptural sketches in mud, both figures and interesting details. The workshop will be carried out by the ceramic artist and sculptor Adolfo B. Morgan. The workshop includes the possibility of baking the pieces made.
For its part, the cultural outing following the works of Vallmitjanas in Barcelona will be Saturday 23 (departure from the station, at 8:45 p.m.) and will travel through various spaces and the public thoroughfare of the city where there are pieces of the three Catalan sculptors . The route will leave the cathedral and will end at the Arc de Triomf after passing through the Plaza Antonio López and the Ciutadella.
These acts are added to other recent activities, such as Piece of the Month Session last October, dedicated to the Bust of child with grapevines on his head, by Venanci Vallmitjana, made with terracotta on an unspecified date from the second half of the 19th century. Also, during the events of the Artist's Day, a children's workshop about creation of sculptures inspired by the works of the Vallmitjanas-
The Vallmitjana Year celebration takes place on the occasion of the centenary of the death of Venanci Vallmitjana i Barbany (Barcelona, 1826-1919) and remembers his figure, but also that of his son Agapit Vallmitjana i Arbaca (Barcelona, 1850-1915 ) and that of his brother Agapit Vallmitjana i Barbany (Barcelona, 1833-1905). The collection of Dr. Jesús Pérez Rosales of the Maricel Museum has nine works by these three sculptors, which are exhibited until January 12 in the exhibition hall of Can Rocamora, the attached building at Cau Ferrat and the Museu de Maricel.
