The museums of Cau Ferrat and that of Maricel are already of National Interest. The Government of the Generalitat today approved this entitlement, which had already been approved by the Board of Museums of Catalonia in March. The condition of National Interest will allow Cau Ferrat and Maricel Museums to equip themselves with a status and a category that opens doors in their projection and in their initiatives and projects, as well as becoming an excellent letter of introduction for visitors.
The Cau Ferrat and the Maricel Museums add to the eight museums that have this status: the National Art Museum of Catalonia, the Picasso Museum. the Joan Miró Foundation, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona, the Maritime Museum of Barcelona, the Episcopal Museum of Vic, the Museum of Montserrat and the Diocesan and Regional Museum of Lleida.
With today's approval, the process that started in May of 2017, when the General Council of the Sitges Heritage Consortium, the managing body of both museums, authorized the director, Vinyet Panyella, to manage the file and the Procedures to obtain the status of National Interest. This milestone is part of the strategic objectives of the Sitges Heritage Consortium for the period 2017-21.
Article 25 of the Law of Museums of Catalonia details that "the Government can declare museums of National Interest all such museums that, due to the importance and value of the group of cultural assets they collect, by the general or specific characteristics of their collections or because the interest of their museum legacy exceeds their frame, they have a special significance for the cultural heritage of Catalonia. "
