The Museums of Sitges present the exhibition "Gaudí & trencadís" which will be open to the public from 6 November 2021 to 27 March 2022, on the ground floor of the Maricel Museum.
The National Ceramic Museum and the Word Monuments Fund, promoters of the travelling exhibition, arrive to Sitges with the “trencandís” mosaic as one of the images that best identify the work of Antoni Gaudí.
In modernism, architecture represents the synthesis of all the arts and, thanks to the proper use of ornamentation, a rich combination of forms is generated, volumes, textures and also colors -a color that is given above all by the use of ceramic and glass mosaic.
Gaudí experimented with all kinds of materials, especially ceramics, replacing the regular cut of the traditional mosaic tile with the random fragment: the "trenca", hence the designation of “trencadís”. In its surroundings, a whole group of artisans, industrialists and laborers sprang up -highlighting the architect Josep M. Jujol (1879-1949)-, with whom he shared the creativity and also his affection for the recycling of materials.
