The Sitges Heritage Consortium loaned two drawings by Pablo Ruiz, Picasso froml Cau Ferrat to thwe the Carmen Thyssen Museum in Malaga to participate in the exhibition Perversity:: fatal women in modern art (1880-1950) , which was inaugurated last Saturday and it will be possible to see until September 8. The loan illustrates the good relations and the contact of professional exchange and heritage between the two museums.
The two Picassos from Cau Ferrat loanedt o the Carmen Thyssen Museum are Two female figures: Tavern fauna and Two seated women: Butterflies with burned wings. Both are dated between the years 1900 and 1901 and are drawings on colored pencils on paper. The Cau Ferrat has four drawings and a Picasso oil (see the list at the end of this text ), all integrated in the Santiago Rusiñol Collection.
The exhibition Perversity: fatal women in modern art (1880-1950) runs through the end of the 19th century and the first half of the XX through works carried out by women, in which the female gaze acquires its own character and identity, which overcomes previous misogynistic visions. In addition to Picasso, the exhibition presents works by Amadeo Modigliani, Gustav Klimt, Ignacio Zuloaga, Man Ray, Pau Gargallo and Salvador Dalí, among others. There are also paintings made by women, such as Suzanne Valadon, Olga Sacharoff, Maruja Mallo or Delphy Tejero.
The relationship between the Sitges Heritage Consortium and the Carmen Thyssen Museum is a remarkable and profitable collaboration, and this transfer of two treasures from Cau Ferrat forms part of this mutual reciprocity. Precisely, the Malagan institution provided the Gypsy Dance Oil (1914-21), by Hermen Anglada Camarasa, to the Consortium, which could be seen at the Maricel Centennial exhibition, installed at the Maricel Museum between 15 November of last year and February 24. Previously, the Museums of Sitges borrowed works by Santiago Rusiñol and Ramon Casas for the Casas exhibition - Rusiñol, two modernist visions, made between the end of 2014 and the beginning of 2015 in Malaga. At the same time, the Thyssen Museum borrowed to the Museums of Sitges paintings by Joaquim Sunyer, Joaquim Mir and Eliseu Meifrèn for an exhibition at the Maricel Museum on the occasion of the reopening after the reform works.
