Coastal archeology will be the focus on the third Journey of Archeology in Sitges
The Museums of Sitges once again bring the archaeological debate to the forefront thanks to the third edition of the Archeology Symposium. The biannual appointment, will repeat the stage at the Palau de Maricel, but this time, later than we were accustomed to: instead of taking place at the end of February, as before, it will be held on Friday, April 6 . This year, in addition, it will return to focus on a specific aspect of the archaeological world. If in the last edition was the archeology of armed conflicts between different peoples and civilizations, the present one will be devoted to coastal archeology.
The archaeological heritage that is on the border between the sea and the land has been the subject of attention in recent years in northern European countries, but in Catalonia and the whole of the peninsula it is still in a phase of very incipient discovery- In fact, at the state level, this will be the first time an entire journey dedicated a specific day to its study. In addition, it is given the fact that Sitges brings together one of the leading teams in the country in coastal archeology. A fact that, in recent years, has resulted in discoveries and underwater explorations in different coastal sites of the city.
In order to be able to contrast management models and tackle coastal archeology from different fields and visions, the workshop will have some thirty top-level experts, who will share knowledge and experiences from different presentations and round tables. The program has been coordinated once again by the archaeologist Pere Izquierdo, head of the Sitges Museum Projects and Heritage area and one of the main driving forces behind the underwater research carried out recently on the Sitges coast.
Those interested in attending the third day of Archeology can register soon through a form that can be found on the website of the Museums of Sitges. The assistance will be limited and will have a cost that will also be announced during the next days. For those who can not attend in person, the event can also be followed via social networks through the tag #ArqueoSitges18. The summary of the day will be reflected in a written publication that, as in the case of its two predecessors, can be purchased at the Sitges Museum store.
