The Cau Ferrat, Santiago Rusiñol's former house-workshop, preserves not only its collection, but also the original atmosphere of a historic home conceived as a total work of art. This uniqueness poses important conservation challenges, especially with regard to works on paper, a fundamental set for understanding Catalan modernism and the figure of Rusiñol.
Paper is a material that is particularly sensitive to factors such as light, humidity or the passage of time, which can cause its degradation and make it more fragile. To guarantee the conservation of the originals and, at the same time, maintain the overall vision of Cau Ferrat, a process has begun to replace the works on paper exhibited with facsimiles.
This visit to the Santiago Rusiñol drawing collection, led by its conservators, will allow access to the reserve space where the originals are kept in appropriate conditions and discover, first-hand, how the professionals responsible for the documentation, conservation and restoration of the collections work.
A look behind the scenes to discover how the heritage of Cau Ferrat is protected and preserved for future generations.
