Sitgestiu 2026 closes the summer with more than 1,500 attendees and a program that has brought the Sitges Museums to life
Sitgestiu 2026 closes its edition after two months of activity in the Sitges Museums, with 1,518 people attending and 83% of the available tickets sold. Beyond the numbers, the balance shows a summer marked by the diversity of audiences, formats and spaces, with proposals that have combined heritage, music, performing arts, sensory experiences and family activities.
Under the motto "Summer light in the Museums of Sitges", the programming has been deployed during the months of July and August through four large areas - Essential, Live, Family and On the Road -, designed to offer different ways of discovering and experiencing heritage.
A summer that has sounded in many ways
Music has had a prominent role in this edition, allowing us to listen to very diverse repertoires and styles in some of the most unique spaces of the heritage complex. The proposals grouped within Sitgestiu Essencials have been the most popular, with 922 participants throughout the summer.
The pocket opera has taken Madama Butterfly to the Golden Hall of the Maricel Palace, while the Rincón de la Calma has hosted the open-air opera. Jazz has once again sounded strongly with the Jazz sessions at the Mirador and the special proposal linked to the Fiesta Mayor, and classical music has found in the Rincón de la Calma a privileged setting for concerts by artists awarded in the 29th Mirabent i Magrans Competition.
Other artistic and cultural languages have been added to this musical diversity. Cinema and audiovisuals have also had their space with Outdoor Fantastic Shorts, a free activity in the Rincón de la Calma that combined a selection of short films from the International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia with the screening of Ángelo Muerto, by Sitges director Cristian Beteta. A proposal specially designed to bring cinema and culture closer to young audiences and expand the diversity of Sitgestiu formats.
Different audiences, languages and ways of experiencing museums
One of the distinctive features of Sitgestiu is the desire to reach diverse audiences. Throughout the summer, activities have been offered in Catalan, Spanish and English, especially in the visits and experiences also aimed at the visiting and international public.
The programming has sought to offer proposals for different generations, from family activities to experiences for adult audiences. The mystery of the bubbles, We played with the magic flute or The Festival on the T-shirt have brought museums closer to children and their families. Altogether, the En Família area has added 141 participants.
For their part, proposals such as Full Moon Sunsets, Aroma Walks, the Malvasía experience or Yoga at dawn have proposed other ways of approaching heritage. The activities grouped under the En Viu area have brought together 308 participants during the two months of programming.
From the Saló d'Or to the Racó de la Calma
The Sitgestiu has also made it possible to rediscover heritage spaces from a different perspective. The program has toured the Cau Ferrat Museum, the Maricel Museum, the Maricel Palace, the Saló d'Or, the Gothic Room, the Racó de la Calma and other spaces and routes in Sitges, turning the same heritage into an essential part of each experience.
Some activities have also left the usual museum spaces to establish links with other places in the town, such as the Vinyet Sanctuary, or discover Sitges through routes and walks. The Modernist Night Tour has also incorporated this year the recreation of the Serpentine Dance, performed by the dancer Sílvia Cuesta and inspired by the creation of the American pioneer Loïe Fuller. The intervention has added dance to the tour of the stages linked to modernism in Sitges, establishing a dialogue between heritage, history and performing arts. The proposals grouped within En Ruta have brought together 147 participants.
This diversity of settings has been one of the characteristics of a program designed so that museums are not only spaces to visit, but also places in which to listen to music, contemplate the sunrise, discover aromas, share a family activity or look at heritage with different eyes.
A program possible thanks to many people
I will carry out the two months of Sitges and also the work of the teams of the Museums of Sitges and the artists, mediators, musicians, guides, workshops and professionals who have participated in the different purposes.
This collective dimension allows us to understand the Sitgestiu not only through assistance, but also through the entire work of production, coordination, public service, communication and mediation that makes possible a programming of these characteristics.
The public response has also been especially positive. Of the 125 surveys collected, 86 people rate the activities in which they have participated as "excellent" and 33 as "very poor", an evaluation that reinforces the positive balance of the edition.
The questions also allow us to better understand the profile of the public. Of the 125 people who will respond, 67 are from Sitges, while the rest come from Garraf, from other parts of Catalonia, from the rest of the State, from Europe and from America. As far as age is concerned, the public aged 45 to 64 predominates, with 64 respondents, followed by people aged 65 years or older, with 49.
The light that has accompanied the summer
With 1,518 participants, 83% of the available tickets sold and various activities in the exhaurid places, the Sitges Museums have an edition that consolidates the Sitgestiu as one of the main purposes of the new summer programme.
The light has been more important than the motto of this edition. He has accompanied the concerts at the capvespre to the Racó de la Calma, he has reflected on the sea from the Maricel terraces and he has appeared again early in the morning with yoga at dawn. A light that, for two months, has allowed us to look at the museums and heritage of Sitges in a different way.
Even at the end of the summer, this edition of the Sitgestiu is so important, but the experience remains shared by the more than 1,500 people who have participated and the will of the Sitges Museums to continue making the heritage a living space, shared and open to new experiences.
