Six models from the Emerencià Roig i Raventós Maritime Collection have recently been restored in the workshop of María de los Reyes Corrales. The operation has been carried out in recent months and the six works have already returned to the warehouses of the Sitges Museums.
The task has consisted of the consolidation, restoration and cleaning of the six boats, which needed improvement work to guarantee their correct conservation. Other restoration interventions will be carried out on this collection soon, with a view to its future exhibition.
The Emerencià Roig i Raventós Maritime Collection consists of nearly 350 objects, including 64 ship models (shipyard, half hull, hull profiles, etc.), miniatures of navigational elements, 26 pieces related to fishing and representations of ships and technical paintings, among others. The collection is complemented by documents, manuscripts and publications deposited in the Santiago Rusiñol Popular Library.
Emerencià Roig i Raventós (Sitges, 1881 - Barcelona, 1935) dedicated his life to studying the Catalan maritime heritage and the Catalan navy of the 19th century. His drawings aimed to collect precise information about the last great era of sailing. At the same time, he developed this outstanding collection of marine art, which was donated to the town of Sitges by his brother.
