A work by Artur Carbonell has been restored and will be part of the exhibition next fall

Sitges Museums has carried out a careful restoration of a work by Artur Carbonell, which will be on display in the anthological exhibition next autumn. The work has allowed the recovery of a painting that was in a poor state of conservation, mainly as a result of inadequate storage.

The painting is entitled Nu femení and is from 1941. It belongs to a private collection and entered the workshop without a stretcher or frame. The textile support is very thin and presented serious structural deformations, with marked folds and wrinkles, which had meant significant losses of the pictorial layer.

The intervention carried out in the Sitges Museums workshop consisted of mechanical cleaning, fixing the pictorial layer, flattening the support, placing a stretcher and reintegrating the pictorial layer. Thanks to this work, the work has recovered its splendor and can be seen in the exhibition Artur Carbonell. From Magical Realism to the Avant-garde, which will present his work within the context of Catalan and European art of his time. The exhibition will take place in the Sala Vaixells of the Palau de Maricel and will be inaugurated on November.
