The Racó de la Calma is full of classics
Yesterday, the Racó de la Calma hosted the first of four classical concerts at Sitgestiu. It was the Herzando Duo, who filled the iconic space with the magic of music that sounded powerful and serene. The next classical concerts at the Racó will be on Wednesdays, July 9, 16, and 23.
The Sitgestiu classical music season is planned by the Concertante Association, in conjunction with the Department of Culture of the Sitges City Council. Award-winning ensembles and performers from the Mirabent and Magrans Competition participate. Yesterday, during its inauguration, the Councilor for Culture, Albert Oliver, highlighted the value of this program, which contributes to providing Sitges' cultural offerings with quality and artistic solidity.
Herzando Duo. The duo comprised of Russian flautist Aleksandr Tian and Chinese guitarist Shenghao Liu opened the classical music season with an applauded recital full of emotion and expressiveness. The Herzando Duo, winners of third prize in the Mirabent and Magrans Competition, engaged in a musical dialogue with an audience, delighting them with their guitar and flute virtuosity.
Rosa Maria Abella and Viviana Salisi. The next concert (Wednesday, July 9) will feature soprano Rosa Maria Abella and pianist Viviana Salisi. Abella won first prize in singing at the 2024 Mirabent Magrans Competition, adding to her other awards at the Conxita Badia Festival (2020) and the Mirna Lacambra (2023) and Tenor Viñas (2024) competitions, among others.
Salisi, with thirty years of experience, is a pianist at the Escuela Superior de Música de Catalunya and has collaborated with institutions such as the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Orquestra de Cambra Catalana, among others.
Violeta Alarcón, Òscar Encinas, and Miquel Ortega. On Wednesday, July 16th, it will be the turn of two young and talented voices (Violeta Alarcón and Óscar Encinas), accompanied by pianist Miquel Ortega. Alarcón placed second in the corner category at the Mirabent, and Magrans and Encinas placed third.
Violeta Alarcón made her opera debut in 2018, playing Elisabeth (Tannhäuser) at the Opéra-Studio in Geneva. The following year, she took on the role of Mimì (La Bohème), a role she reprised in 2023 with Òpera Terrassa. She recently made her zarzuela debut, performing Rosaura (Los Gavilanes) and Carolina (Luisa Fernanda).
Óscar Encinas made his debut at the Sabadell Opera School in the role of Roméo (Roméo et Juliette). In 2023, he performed Rodolfo (La Bohème). He recently performed Alfredo (La Traviata) at the Palacio de la Música Catalana, Jorge (Marina) at the Teatre Monumental de Mataró, and Africana, Luisa Fernanda, El cantar del arriero, La tabernera del puerto, Bohemios, and Los Gavilanes.
Miquel Ortega is today one of the leading figures in the lyrical genre in Spain. A composer, conductor, and pianist, his career is complemented by a solid initial training as a singer, which gives him a comprehensive and profoundly musical vision of the stage.
Faccini Piano Duo. The final concert of the series will be on Wednesday the 2nd with the Faccini Piano Duo, which won first prize in the Mirabent Magrans Competition. Founded in Lucca, Tuscany, Italy, in 2015, the Faccini Piano Duo consists of Italian-British pianists and composers Elia and Betsabea Faccini. Considered one of the foremost chamber music ensembles of the new generation in Italy, the duo stands out for its expressive depth, technical precision, and interpretative refinement. In June 2024, they released their debut album, Ravel: Music for Piano Four-Hands, on the Italian-Japanese label Da Vinci Classics, offering a sensitive and detailed interpretation of the works of Maurice Ravel.
