Annual meeting of the governing bodies of the Consorci del Patrimoni de Sitges
The Consorci del Patrimoni de Sitges (CPS) held its annual meeting of its governing bodies on Tuesday, May 6, with the consecutive convocation of the Executive Committee and the General Council, which took place in the Saló d'Or of the Palau de Maricel. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy for Culture of the Barcelona Provincial Council and president of the Consortium, Pau González, and was attended by the vice-president of the Consortium and mayor of Sitges, Aurora Carbonell, and the new director of the CPS, Txema Romero, among other members of the institution.
During the meeting, the annual report on activities for 2024 was presented and approved, a document that recorded the intense and diverse activity of the museums managed by the Consortium and that demonstrated a positive turning point in the trajectory of the entity, both from an organizational point of view and in terms of its cultural projection, sustainability and commitment to the citizens.
A year of growth, projection and consolidation
The year 2024 was marked by a remarkable recovery in public, with an overall increase of 14.3% compared to the previous year. The CPS museums received nearly 77,000 visitors, more than 7,700 students and more than 8,000 participants in activities aimed at adults. The educational and cultural mediation program continued to expand, consolidating the Consortium's role as an active agent in access to culture and training.
The cultural programming was very well received, with proposals such as Sitgestiu, the Autumn Cycle, with the projection of the mapping Museums go out with more than 6,800 views, gender-specific visits or initiatives such as the Santiago Rusiñol Reading Club and the reading marathons. All activities recorded occupancy levels close to 100%, a key indicator of their success.
International projection and structural advances
The Consortium had a prominent presence at an international level, with the participation of 23 works from its collections in highly relevant exhibitions organized by institutions such as the Museo Nacional del Prado, the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya or the Museu Picasso de Barcelona, as well as in exhibitions held in Munich, Milan and Hamburg.
At the infrastructure level, in 2024 it allowed the promotion of several structural projects such as the conditioning and reopening of the Sala Vaixells dels Palau de Maricel as an exhibition space, and work on the studies for the consolidation and use plan of Can Falç de Mar, and in the preparation of the Master Plan for the reopening of the Museu Romàntic Can Llopis. These initiatives had the technical and economic support of the Diputació de Barcelona.
Highlights and institutional consolidation
2024 coincided with several important anniversaries for the Consortium: the 30th anniversary of its creation, the tenth anniversary of the reopening of Cau Ferrat and the Maricel Museum, and the 700th anniversary of the Hospital de Sant Joan de Sitges. These commemorations served to vindicate the Consortium's trajectory and project its museums into the future with an open and participatory vision.
Looking to the future with a consolidated model
The report also highlighted the strengthening of the Consortium's organizational and financial model, with an increase in its own income – coming from the review of public taxes and prices, sales of the “La Puntual” store and the transfer of spaces – as well as the contribution of the Provincial Council. In addition, the phase of the Contingency Plan was implemented to improve the organization of human resources.
Last Monday's meeting concluded with a clear look towards the future and the establishment of strategic lines for the coming years, based on sustainability, a culture of quality, internationalization and commitment to the local community.
