The Sitges Heritage Consortium has recently joined the Public System of Visual Arts Facilities of Catalonia (SPEAV), an initiative of the Department of Culture of the Generalitat that was born with a clear objective: to organize, connect and strengthen the network of facilities dedicated to the visual arts throughout the territory.
The system brings together around thirty centers —including contemporary art centers, exhibition spaces and other cultural facilities— and works to guarantee a quality, balanced and accessible artistic offer for all citizens. Beyond concentrating activity in the major capitals, SPEAV is committed to a territorial perspective that allows contemporary art to reach the entire country.
To achieve this, the model is structured at different levels —national facilities, territorial centers and local spaces—, which facilitates coordination between institutions and optimizes the distribution of resources. This organization also favors networking and collaboration between facilities.
Among the main lines of action of the system are the improvement of artistic quality, support for contemporary creation and the promotion of research, production and dissemination projects. At the same time, cultural mediation is reinforced and the generation of new audiences is promoted, with a clear desire to bring art closer to citizens.
The facilities that are part of the SPEAV play an active role in the production of exhibitions, the conservation and documentation of contemporary heritage and the support of artists and creators, providing spaces and opportunities to grow and give visibility to their projects.
With this incorporation, the Sitges Heritage Consortium joins a strategic network for the development of the visual arts in Catalonia, consolidating its commitment to access to culture and a more cohesive, sustainable and connected territorial model.
