The Sitges Museums are launching the sixth season of the Santiago Rusiñol Reading Club, an event that invites you to discover and reread the artist's literary work and delve deeper into the cultural context of Catalan modernism. The new cycle will begin on October 15 and will run until April 15, 2027, with seven meetings led by Andreu Bosch in the Sala Vaixells of the Palau de Maricel.
Throughout his life, Rusiñol developed an extensive literary production, with more than a hundred titles including theater, novels, poetic prose, travel books and journalistic articles. The Reading Club allows you to delve into this facet through some of his best-known works and others that help to broaden your discovery, placing them in the context of Catalan modernism.
Beyond reading texts written more than a century ago, the Club poses a question that will run throughout the season: why is Santiago Rusiñol's work still relevant today? The meetings will seek answers through reading and conversation, revisiting a work that has made Rusiñol a classic of Catalan literature and that continues to be present in new editions and on stages.
Seven readings between Rusiñol and modernism
The season will open on October 15 with Fulls de la vida, by Santiago Rusiñol. On November 12, exceptionally on the second Thursday of the month, it will be the turn of L'Illa de la calma, and on December 17, Ocells de fang will be discussed.
2027 will begin with a foray into another of the great names of Catalan modernism. On January 21, the Club will read Els sots feréstecs, by Raimon Casellas. He will then return to Rusiñol with El català de la Mancha, on February 18; La mare, on March 18, and La merienda fraternal, which will close the season on April 15.
The presence of other authors of the period will help to situate Rusiñol in his literary and cultural context and to establish connections with other voices of modernism. The meetings will also feature special guests, interpretations of fragments and discussions, to enrich the readings and share different points of view.
A shared reading of Rusiñol's universe
The Reading Club offers a space to approach the literature of Santiago Rusiñol through shared reading and conversation. Each meeting will allow you to discover or reread the texts, situate them in their historical moment and put them in relation to other authors and the cultural legacy of modernism.
The sessions will take place, with the exceptions indicated in the program, on the third Thursday of each month, at 6 p.m., in the Sala Vaixells of the Palau de Maricel, and will be led by Andreu Bosch.
Registrations will open on September 21st and can be completed through the Sitges Museums website and in person at the Museums reception.
