The Museums of Sitges are filling this November with art, literature, experiences and activities for all audiences
The Museums of Sitges face November with a program that invites you to discover heritage from very diverse perspectives. Conferences, guided tours, family workshops, literature, contemporary art and wellness experiences make up an agenda that reinforces the desire to open museums to different audiences and connect the collections with the concerns of today's society.
Under the umbrella of the Arts Laboratory, the program brings into dialogue the legacy of Santiago Rusiñol, Lola Anglada and the great names of art with new ways of approaching heritage. The month will be marked by activities linked to the Habitar el arte exhibition. The Subirachs collection, the discovery of the lesser-known collections of the Cau Ferrat and the proposals that vindicate the presence of women in the history of art.
New views on art and collections
Research and artistic dissemination will have a prominent role during November. On November 5, at 6 p.m., the Maricel Museum will host the presentation of the book The Pervivencia of a Look, by Artur Ramon Navarro and Clara Beltrán Catalán, by the writer and researcher Vinyet Panyella.
On November 13, Piece of the Month will focus on Castillo del Rey II. Panel from the Grand Hotel, by Santiago Rusiñol, with a conference by art historian Sebastià Sánchez Sauleda, at 6 p.m., in the Gothic Room of the Maricel Museum. This is the proposal that was postponed on October 30.
Another of the notable events will arrive on November 19, with the inaugural conference of the Habitar el arte exhibition. The Subirachs collection, in charge of its curators, Susanna Portell and Ignasi Domènech. The session, at 6 p.m. in the Sala Gòtica, will allow us to delve deeper into the exhibition project and the keys to interpreting a collection that relates art, space and collecting. Next, there will be a reading of a selection of poems by Catalan authors dedicated to Josep Maria Subirachs, under the care of Judit Subirachs Burgaya, the sculptor's daughter. At the end, you can visit the exhibition until 9 p.m.
The program will also include, on November 26, at 6 p.m., the Miró-Rusiñol proposal, travel and escape, with Vinyet Panyella and the scenic creator Xavier Albertí, in collaboration with the Network of Art Museums of Catalonia. Art and territory on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Fundació Joan Miró.
Discovering Heritage from Within
November will also offer opportunities to visit museums from a different perspective. On November 4, the Cau Ferrat Museum and the Maricel Museum will hold an open house from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
On November 7, there will be guided tours of both museums, at 11:00 a.m. in Catalan and at 12:00 p.m. in Spanish.
One of the most unique offerings will be "The Role of Cau Ferrat: The Unseen Museum," scheduled for November 21, with sessions at 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. This activity will allow access to the Maricel Museum's storage room to explore the Santiago Rusiñol drawing collection with the professionals responsible for its conservation. This visit will offer a glimpse into a part of the heritage that is not usually visible to the public and will provide a better understanding of the conservation, research, and documentation work carried out in museums. This proposal is part of the program of activities celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Barcelona Provincial Council's Network of Local Museums.
Family workshops to discover art through play
Family activities will continue to be a key focus of the Arts Laboratory. On November 7th, at 11:00 AM, the Escola Pia de Sitges will host the workshop "The Thread of Time," an opportunity to discover the history hidden within the costumes of the dolls in the Lola Anglada Collection. This activity will connect heritage with everyday life and allow participants to explore different eras through the clothing and details of this unique set of dolls.
On November 20th, coinciding with World Children's Day, the Sitges Museums will participate in the day's activities with the workshop "Maricel Shines! The event will take place in Plaça Catalunya, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and will invite children to discover one of the most representative elements of the Maricel complex and transform it into their own colorful and imaginative creation.
The family program will continue on Saturday, November 28, at 12:00 p.m., with an Advent calendar workshop in the Sala Vaixells at the Palau de Maricel. This creative activity, designed to prepare for the Christmas holidays, invites participants to discover a universe full of stories, imagination, and fantasy, starting with the new space dedicated to girls.

This initiative encourages a more thoughtful and personal relationship with works of art through observation, dialogue, and shared experience.
November 25th, a day to celebrate women artists
To mark November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Sitges Museums will organize a special event entitled "Women in Art: From Invisibility to Recognition." From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Maricel Museum will host various activities designed to encourage reflection on the inequalities that have historically hindered the recognition of women artists. The event will include a quiet space at the Maricel Museum's viewpoint, furnished with cushions for rest and reflection; a selection of ambient music by female composers from different eras; and a screening of the virtual exhibition "En Clau de Dona" in the Gothic Hall. With this initiative, the Sitges Museums aim to contribute to recovering the voices of women in the history of culture and to reaffirm the role of museums as spaces for raising awareness and fostering social change.
