The Maricel Museum opened the exhibition Unexpected visits today, an exhibition where six works that come from art galleries talk with six other pieces from the collection of the same museum.Unexpected visits is a joint initiative of Sitges Museums and the Catalonian Art Gallery Association. The exhibition is curated by Montse Frisach and can be seen until January 7 at the Maricel Museum.
The Unexpected visits are, as their name shows, the reception in the rooms of the Maricel Museum of works that are not part of its collections. These pieces have been placed next to others from their own collections, with which there are certain aesthetic, visual or conceptual connections and which make it possible to establish a dialogue of diverse and even contrasting styles and periods.
The six works received are: from Ramon Calsina, Evocation (1979), which comes from the Sala Rusiñol; Arnau Alemany, Tram with tree (2012), comes from Ágora 3; Cristian Herrera, Calderilla chair (2021), comes from Il·lacions Gallery; Adolfo Bigioni Skyline (2021), comes from the Jordi Barnadas Gallery; Boris Anje, The dawn of brotherhood (2022), comes from OOA Gallery; Gerard Fernandez, 0,52-1 (2022), comes from Pigment Gallery.
All six works are displayed in the rooms of the Maricel Museum next to pieces from the collections with which they talk in different formats. These are the works: Saint Francis (end of the 15th century, beginning of the 16th), attributed to Mestre de los Balbases;Baskets with fruit, plate and birdcage (1635-1645), d'Antonio Ponce; Sofa chairs(s. XVIII); white farmhouse (1902), by Santiago Rusiñol; The Ribas Sisters (1913), by Joaquim Sunyer. In addition, there is one of the works that talks with the sea from the viewpoint of Can Rocamora.
