Corpus Christi and Sitges Art Pride headline the June program at the Sitges Museums Arts Laboratory
The Sitges Museums present the June program of the Laboratorio de les Arts, a set of activities that connect heritage, contemporary creation and citizen participation. This month's proposal revolves especially around two outstanding events in the Sitges calendar: the celebration of Corpus Christi and the activities organized within the framework of Sitges Art Pride, which convert the museum facilities into spaces for meeting, reflection and expression of diversity.
The tradition of Corpus Christi has a special role with several activities linked to one of the most emblematic festivals of the town. The program includes the Corpus Christi Workshop (June 6), a participatory proposal that allows you to learn up close the elements and processes that make this celebration possible, as well as the traditional exhibition of L'Ou com Balla (June 7) in the courtyard of the Palau de Maricel, one of the most unique and beloved manifestations of Catalan festive heritage.
Alongside tradition, the month of June also focuses on diversity and plurality of stories with a specific program linked to Sitges Art Pride. The Sitges Museums join this celebration of LGTBIQ+ pride with activities that demand new perspectives on heritage and culture.
The program begins on June 5 with the official opening of the small-format exhibition New Acquisitions for New Stories 2025.2, an exhibition that presents works by artists such as Ismael Smith, Costus, Nazario, Paco y Manolo, Ocaña, Jean Cocteau and Roser Oduber, among others, and that contributes to expanding the traditional narratives of museum collections from an inclusive and contemporary perspective.
Among the highlighted activities is also the Literary Tour through some authors and titles of Catalan LGTBIQ+ literature (June 10), led by the writer and translator Sebastià Portell, which proposes an approach to authors, authors and works that are fundamental to understanding sexual and gender diversity in Catalan literature.
The reflection on dissident memories will continue with the contemporary art workshop Dissident Memories (June 18), by the multidisciplinary artist Albert Potrony and the cultural manager Roser Sanjuan. The proposal invites participants to explore new stories and forms of representation based on artistic creation and shared experience.
The program will culminate on June 19 with the ballroom performance El ball dels monstres (Allò que no es veu), by the artist Jayce, a stage action that dialogues with dissident identities and contemporary expressions of the body, performativity and representation.
The LGTBIQ+ perspective will also be present on June 12 at the session of the Piece of the Month, dedicated to the work Minotaur by Juan Carrero “Costus”, which will feature interventions by the art historian Víctor Ramírez Tur and the drag performer Norma Mor (Muerte a la Norma). The activity will allow us to delve deeper into one of the most significant figures of the Madrid Movida and his contribution to new readings of contemporary heritage.
The program is completed with family activities, guided tours of the museums, the Palau de Maricel and the Stämpfli Foundation, as well as a sensory visit to the Cau Ferrat Museum, reaffirming the commitment of the Sitges Museums to accessibility, participation and diversification of audiences.
With this proposal, the Laboratorio de les Arts consolidates its vocation of opening museums to new forms of cultural experience, connecting the traditions that define the identity of Sitges with contemporary sensibilities and debates.
