The Sitges Museums exhibition program for 2025 includes two new proposals to bring together, on the one hand, Catalan collections and, on the other, relevant figures of the 20th century linked to local heritage. These are the Manuel Puig Collection and the Artur Carbonell Collection, respectively.
The Manuel Puig Collection is considered the best private Catalan collection of drawings. It includes works from six centuries, from the Renaissance to the present day, by Italian, French and English artists, among others, who express creative genius in various phases: when starting work, in making sketches, in the design of models and in the forms that will eventually transform the work. The exhibition The Exaltation of Drawing: The Manuel Puig Collection will be presented in the Sala Vaixells of the Palau de Maricel between May 16 and October 19.
For its part, the exhibition Artur Carbonell: from Magic Realism to the Avant-garde is a necessary tribute to one of the most important local artists. Painter, playwright and set designer, the work of Artur Carbonell (Sitges, 1906 - 1973) is a reflection of the transition of artistic styles and trends in his time. The exhibition will present his work in the context of Catalan and European art, emphasizing his admiration for Jean Cocteau, who profoundly influenced him. Artur Carbonell: from Magic Realism to the Avant-garde can be seen in the Sala Vaixells between November 7, 2025 and March 8, 2026.
Until March 16, this space is hosting the exhibition L’Amic de les Arts. Art and poetry in Sitges (1926-29), which is an accurate vision of what was one of the most relevant cultural magazines in Catalonia in the 20th century and which shows works by Salvador Dalí, Joaquim Torres García, Rafael Barradas, Josep Maria de Togores or Artur Carbonell himself.
