Narrative Figuration – Footprint 2025 – 1950-2025
EXHIBITION 'NARRATIVE FIGURE - FOOTPRINT 2025 - 1950-2025'
Last Saturday, May 10, the Stämpfli Foundation - Contemporary Art inaugurated "Narrative Figuración - Huella 2025 - 1950-2025", three exhibitions structured in three thematic areas that represent a visual and conceptual synthesis of the main lines that have marked Peter's artistic career. The exhibition, open to the public from Sunday 11 May, is conceived as a celebration of Peter Stämpfli's 75 years of creation. The exhibition takes up the three rooms of the museum, managed by the Consorcio del Patrimonio de Sitges, with unique and complementary proposals, which allow you to go through the various stages of the work of the Swiss artist and his dialogue with other outstanding figures of contemporary European art.
ROOM 1 – Narrative Figuration
15 years of the Prefiguration of the Fund of the Foundation
The first room recovers the founding spirit of the Stämpfli Foundation, focusing on one of its main lines: Narrative Figuration, a movement that arose in France in the sixties as a critical response to consumer society and the great political and media stories of the time, in the social context that led to the events of May 1968.
The hall commemorates the 15 years since the first public presentation of the Foundation's fund, which took place in April 2010 at the Miramar Cultural Center. That exhibition was a turning point in the cultural project that would end up being consolidated with the opening of the museum in 2011.
12 fundamental artists of narrative figuration are represented, all of them present in the Foundation's collection: Antonio Seguí, Bernard Rancillac, Eduardo Arroyo, Errón, Gérard Fromanger, Gianni Bertini, Henri Cueco, Jacques Monory, Jan Voss, Marco Del Re, Peter Klasen and Peter Stämp.
ROOM 2 – Footprint 2025
A large format installation
The present of art and the Foundation is concentrated in the second room with the proposal Footprint 2025, a unique work by Peter Stämpfli that occupies the entire floor of the room and invites the visitor to immerse himself in its visual language.
With this large-format installation, the artist once again explores the imprint as a plastic symbol and philosophical concept, a line that has marked much of his work, especially since the seventies. The result is an immersive, physical and visual experience that offers a new look at the exhibition space and the relationship between the work and the viewer.
ROOM 3 – 1950–2025. 75 years of creation
The first works of an artist in training
The third room closes the tour with an unusual look at the past: a selection of unpublished and youthful works by Peter Stämpfli, made between 1950 and 1953, when the artist was just laying siege to his path.
These are gouaches inspired by impressionist masters, preserved until now in the private sphere, which are exhibited for the first time to the public. This ensemble reveals the origin of a vocation, the moment when painting ceases to be just learning to become a way of life.
With this triple proposal, the Stämpfli Foundation – Contemporary Art offers a transversal reading of its own history and reaffirms its commitment to the diffusion of contemporary European art.
