Museums of Sitges joined the Museum Week for the first time, the virtual event dedicated to the world of the most followed museums around the world. The edition of this year, which is the fifth, goes from Monday 23 to Sunday 29 April and has as central elements the coexistence, citizenship and tolerance. The intention of the initiative is to create synergistic dialogues between the museum institutions and, especially, between them and the users.
To facilitate the debate, the organization proposes seven labels - one for each day of the week - that concentrate all posted messages. Those chosen this year have been #WomenMW (Monday 23), to claim that the role of women in society is as important as that of man .CityMW (Tuesday 24), to emphasize the inspiring role of cities for artists; #HeritageMW (Wednesday 25), to guard against the protection of the heritage; #ProfessionsMW (Thursday 26), to honor the different work profiles that give birth to cultural institutions; #KidsMW (Friday 27), to emphasize museums as a source of stimuli and knowledge for future generations; #NatureMW (Saturday 28), to demonstrate the presence of nature in works of art; and # DifferenceMW (Sunday 29), to discover how the difference and inequality between humans are reflected in art.
As in previous editions, the generic label of the initiative is #MuseumWeek, which highlights the role of culture, art, science and education in the active development of societies and invites all Twitter users share their experiences to enrich these virtual dialogues. The project was born in France in 2014 and is co-organized between UNESCO and the same Twitter social network. Apart from the museums, also art galleries, libraries, archives and science centers around the world can participate.
