It has been one of the most anticipated works, due to its size and, at the same time, its crucial importance. This is the Catalog of paintings and printed works of the Cau Ferrat, published by the Consortium of Heritage of Sitges, and which was presented last Friday at the same Cau Ferrat.
The work presents the catalog and explains all the paintings and drawings of the Cau Ferrat, both the exposed pieces and those that form part of the collection but have never been exhibited. The Catalog intends, on the one hand, to divulgate the known entire collection of drawings and paintings by Santiago Rusiñol to the scientific community; and, on the other hand, to make it available to anyone interested in this particular artist and collector, and in art in general.
The Catalog analyzes the works of the Cau Ferrat, structuring them into three periods: the fourteenth, seventeenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and the works incorporated in the collection from 1932, when the Museum Board took over Rusiñol's legacy to make it a public museum. 25 authors of recognized prestige have participated in the writing: Cristina Alcalde, Cristina Armentia, Ana Arregui, Bonaventura Bassegoda, Ricard Bru, Miguel Ángel Codes, Ignasi Domènech, Victoria Durá, Glòria Escala, Isabel Fabregat, Francesc Fontbona, Mireia Freixa , Mikel Lertxundi, Albert Martí, Francesc Miralpeix, Vinyet Panyella, Susanna Portell, Francesc Quílez, Aitor Quiney, Artur Ramon, Francesc Ruiz, Juan San Nicolás, Eliseu trenc, Eduard Vallès and Albert Velasco.
The presentation of the works is accompanied by studies related to the artists themselves. The acting director of Museums of Sitges, Pere Izquierdo, emphasizes in the introductory text that "this is a choral work, which involves the best specialists we have found for each subject, who have made every effort during the years of preparation of the catalog." The Catalog also includes a careful study of Santiago Rusiñol, his work and collections, and the Cau Ferrat, by the curator of collections of Museums in Sitges, Ignasi Domènech.
The book is published in Catalan and English, costs € 31 and is on sale at the museum shop. The presentation was made on Friday on the ground floor of the Cau Ferrat, with the interventions of art historian Francesc Fontbona, Pere Izquierdo and Ignasi Domènech.
